Usually the web is seen and then the spider. Light coloured spider with dark band around edge of head and dark, bell-shaped mark in the middle of the body. Length: including legs, 3-4 centimetres.


Coastal Queensland to Brisbane, often not near water. The spiders also occur in China and south-east Asia.


Large scooped sheet extending from thick branches or trunk of small trees; the web spirals slightly into funnel in which the spider retreats against the stem.

One of the two groups of Water spiders that are often found away from water.
