The Great Barrier Reef Exhibition

Take the plunge and explore the largest reef system on Earth at Queensland Museum’s outdoor photographic exhibition, The Great Barrier Reef.

The exhibition located in the Whale Mall features a collection of 87 large-scale, full colour images by award-winning Queensland Museum photographer Gary Cranitch, taken over a four-year period in which he logged more than 500 reef dives.

The images featured in the exhibition are highlights from The Great Barrier Reef book published by the Museum, and comprised of more than 1000 exquisite full colour images and illustrations curated by Queensland Museum scientists.

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest reef system on Earth, but it is also surprisingly one of the youngest reefs with its history of formation taking place within the past million years. There have been several periods of reef growth, during this time, but the modern reef as we know it is only about 8000 years old.

The Great Barrier Reef exhibition has been extended to 22 November 2015.

The companion book The Great Barrier Reef is available from Queensland Museum shop here.
