Discovery Day for little learners 

Little Learners (2 - 5 years) are invited to join us for a jam-packed day of adventure and discovery. Little ones will be guided by a treasure map to uncover fun, hands-on activities that explore some of our greatest museum treasures.

There’s a treasure-trove of activities to unearth: 

  • Put on your diving gear and explore our magical coral reef  
  • Become a palaeontologist and dig for fossils to uncover clues about the past
  • Get up close to some amazing insects 
  • Use your imagination to build your own animal home 
  • Bring along your own personal favourite natural or cultural treasures from home to share. Museum experts will be on hand to help you identify and learn more about your own treasure and they will show you some of their favourite, special collection items too. 

When: Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 February

Time: 9:30am –12:30pm

Age: Ideal for ages 2 – 5.

Where: Queensland Museum, South Bank

Cost: Free, but essential to book a free timed-ticket entry to the museum. Free activities and exhibitions are included in your General Admission ticket. Visitors can choose from a range of fun, drop-in experiences. Participation may be managed by audience size limits but sessions repeat throughout the day. Please note: Tickets to paid experiences include entry to the museum for the allocated time.

SparkLab: Little Sparks is a paid ticket experience. Bookings are essential.

Be a scientist in SparkLab! Be curious and play, ask questions and test your ideas in hands-on experiences designed especially for little learners.

The Living Reef

Level 1.5

9:30am - 12:30pm (Drop-in session)
Dive deep and learn about coral reefs by putting on your diving gear to discover the organisms that live there. Create your own sea creature too.

The Big Dig

Level 2

9:30am - 12:30pm (Drop-in session)
Put on your palaeontologist’s gear, grab your tools and dig for rocks and fossils to curate your own museum display.

Discover this amazing group of reptiles with fun, hands-on activities and stories.

Animal Homes

Peek inside the homes of different animals and learn how they build or find their place to call home. Use your imagination to build your own animal home.
