Queensland Museum Medal

The Board of the Queensland Museum may honour individuals who have made a major contribution in a field relevant to the Queensland Museum for excellence in research, collections, community projects, partnerships and engagement or other work carried out for the benefit of the Queensland Museum. 

The Queensland Museum Medal is recognition of outstanding achievement and the recipient/s will embody the values of the Queensland Museum through excellence in a relevant field.

As a research institution nominations for the Medal will be subjected to rigorous consideration.

In addition –

  1. It is anticipated that only one medal will be awarded per year. However, the very demanding criteria for the award will be the basic consideration and the number awarded is at the discretion of the Board. The Board may decline to offer any Medal in any particular year.
  2. Nominations for the award may be subjected to independent referee reports.
  3. The Medal may be presented to members of the community as well as to past and present staff members.
  4. The working group will undertake to ensure that awardees are representative of the community through age, gender and ethnic diversity.

 The Board approved that the above statement and conditions apply to the awarding of the Queensland Museum Medal. 

Nomination process 

  1. Describe the individual’s outstanding achievements and contribution to work carried out for the benefit of Queensland or the Queensland Museum in fields including but not limited to research, collections, community projects, partnerships and engagement.
  2. Explain why this achievement is deserving of the Medal including evidence of this excellence.
  3. Provide the names of up to three people able to provide further information about the nominee’s achievements.

The nomination should not exceed 1,000 words.

  1. Contribution to the QMN
  2. Excellence in their field
  3. Impact in the wider community
