Biographical Info: |
Kristen assists in the management of the extensive Geosciences geological and palaeontological collections at the Queensland Museum. She joined the museum in 1999 after completing her Bachelor of Science, majoring in geology, at James Cook Uni in Townsville. She has extensive knowledge of the collections which includes rock, mineral and fossil specimens and organises the appropriate storage, movement and handling of the material to ensure their preservation. She began at the museum in a technical role and also has extensive field and preparation experience within the geosciences lab. Other projects she has taken part in include the use of a scanning electron microscope to produce publication quality images of a variety of palaeontological material. When asked how difficult it is to organise and work with such a large collection – Kristen replies “When you love what you do, and in my case work with an absolutely amazing representative collection of Queensland’s rock, mineral and fossil material, it makes it so much easier. Everyday you discover something new!” Kristen is currently undergoing her postgraduate diploma in Museum Studies and when Kristen is not fussing over the collection, she works in the fitness industry as a group exercise instructor and personal trainer, but has yet to get her Geosciences team mates to do a fitness session with her!
