Social HistorySectionThrough its collections and other activities the Social History Section aims to document the historical experience of Queensland since white settlement in 1824. There are currently about 43,000 items in its collections. The section's research will lead to books such as In the Yard and Under the House (on the use of private space under and around Queensland's distinctive houses) and Goats and Goat Carts, as well as a comprehensive accessioning kit for small museums (including an Access-based database). Recent major acquisitions include a Hartnett Gregoire car, a major collection of toys and dolls and a pistol believed to have belonged to the bushranger Captain Thunderbolt.
