Cultural Heritage
Brilliant Careers
This book is a tribute to 34 women who, as scientific collectors and
illustrators, have enriched our knowledge of the Queensland environment
and people. All have left a public legacy in their contributions to
museums and herbariums in their publications and advocacy of conversation.
Until now, their achievements have been largely unknown. The careers of
many are recorded here for the first time.

Pandora - An Archaeological Perspective
The story of the Pandora, one of Australia's best known shipwrecks, is the
tragic sequel to the infamous Mutiny on the Bounty. Sent to the South Pacific to recapture the Bounty mutineers, the
Pandora sank after running aground in the treacherous and unchartered
waters of Australia's Great Barrier Reef. Thirty-one crew and four mutineers
perished. Today the wreck of the Pandora is a storehouse of artefacts that
offers a tantalising insight into our seafaring past.

Queensland Architects of the 19th Century
In 1883 an English visitor to the Australian Colonies made a condescending
comment that many of the architects were self-taught and had served no
apprenticeship in the profession, 'which should rather be called a trade'.
In this first biographical dictionary of Queensland architects, almost 800
architects and firms, who practised in the colony before 1900, have been
identified. Their backgrounds, careers, buildings and their legacy to the
state's heritage is examined in succinct, well-researched entries, enhanced
by more than 800 mostly contemporary illustrations.
