Ellis Rowan – A Flower-Hunter in Queensland

The Queensland Museum’s collection of 125 flower paintings by Ellis Rowan has been inaccessible to the public for almost half a century. This book marks the conservation and exhibition of the collection.

Ellis Rowan was an enigmatic woman far ahead of her time. She maintained a successful and independent career as an artist while indulging her love of flowers and picturesque travel. A shameless self-publicist, she wrote of her life’s adventures and enjoyed holding her listeners spellbound with stories of how she had dangled from precipices and travelled among head-hunters to find subjects for her paintings.
