Section

The Conservation Section aims to ensure that the physical, cultural and intellectual integrity of the collections in the care of the Queensland Museum is preserved in perpetuity. The conservation and preservation of the Museum’s collection is achieved through the implementation of a range of remedial and preventive conservation programs in accordance with international best practice.

The Conservation Section can be contacted for advice on the conservation of museum objects via the Inquiry Centre.

Current Work

Current major projects and research include the conservation of the bark paintings collection, an investigation into adhesives and consolidants used in palaeontological specimens, storage upgrades for the Museum’s cultural heritage collection, and ongoing treatments of historic shipwreck material. Other activities include the conservation treatment of objects proposed for accessioning, exhibition and loan.
