A wealth of knowledge

world's largest cockroaches

Ask our helpful, knowledgable Inquiry Centre staff any Queensland Museum-related question and we should find the answer. More difficult questions are referred to our scientists and cultural heritage experts.

Library and other written material

Our library specialises in popular and academic books about Australian animals, ecology, earth science and cultural heritage. We also keep files of scientific papers and magazine articles, as well as producing our own fact sheets, about frequently requested topics.

world's largest cockroaches Displays

The displays have a little bit of everything from the museum's collections: corals, crayfish, shells, spiders, insects, reptiles, birds, mammals, ceramics, glassware, Aboriginal and Torres Strait artefacts, classical antiquities, firearms and edged weapons.

The items in displays are arranged systematically: that is, all the birds are together and all the ducks next to other ducks. This allows visitors to compare one with another as an aid to identification. Correct identification is the key to find other information.

The Queensland Museum's latest acquisitions and discoveries are featured in three constantly changing displays.

Living animals

Always popular are the world's largest cockroaches, stick insects spiders and other insects.
