Leisure & Creativity

For the Women of the West, artistic endeavours have been a means of coping with isolation. Some of their crafts and creative activities have involved elaborating everyday household objects, blurring the boundary between art and life.

Women have also been the organisers of much of the social life of remote communities.

[dolls] Aboriginal dolls by Sarah Midgley (late 1920s).

[games] Collection of games: games set (c.1930), playing cards (c. 1935) and tennis racquets (c. 1900).
