Megafauna - prehistoric giants from the Darling Downs
Developed by Queensland Museum, this exhibition is based on research from local Darling Downs sites. Megafauna evolved after the extinction of dinosaurs and roamed the Darling Downs from 1.8 million to 10,000 years ago and the sites on the Darling Downs are some of the most well-preserved and extensive in Australia.

This special ceremonial trowel was used by Sir George Ferguson Bowen, first Governor of Queensland, to lay the foundation stone of Queensland's Parliament House in George Street, Brisbane on 14 July 1865.

Enchanted Rainforest
Enchanted Rainforest is locally focused and inspired by the Paluma Rainforest in North Queensland. Built around an awe-inspiring recreation of a fig tree, the exhibition’s interactive displays teach visitors about the flora and fauna of a rainforest environment. It also includes information about the Indigenous land use of the forest and describes its special meaning to Indigenous peoples.

Walking in my shoes
View life in Toowoomba through the eyes of six young people from different cultural backgrounds at Cobb and Co. Museum’s Harmony Day display from 19 March. Walking in my shoes has been developed in conjunction with Centenary Heights State High School (CHSHS) and features the stories of six students who have chosen to include a pair of shoes which are either culturally or personally significant to them. The countries and cultures represented include Liberian, German, Indigenous Australian, Solomon Islander, Bangladeshi and European Australian.

In Memoriam, Expo Oz
Expo Oz, the Expo mascot, had a brief but brilliant career. Born on 30 November 1986, he publicised the event world-wide and made over 1500 appearances on the site. The playful platypus was the child of Bob Moore of Disney Enterprises of California. Though essentially Australian, he bore a striking resemblance to his American cousin, Donald Duck. Following Expo, Oz’s pelt was deposited in the Queensland Museum and he is remembered by a range of souvenirs.
Come face to face with Expo Oz again, as part of the 20th Anniversary World Expo 88 Celebrations, and chuckle at his antics in the short video “The Adventures of Expo Oz”.

Central Javanese Gamelan
A Gamelan orchestra is beautiful to look at as well as hear! It features instruments such as gongs and metallophones, mounted in ornate wooden cases, and can also include drums, bowed fiddle, bamboo flute and even voices. This Gamelan bears the name “Kyahi Jatidiri”, translated as “Gamelan of High Esteem”. It is a fine example of the orchestras traditionally played in the courts of the Royal rulers of Central Java. The highly respected musician Midiyanto will visit the Museum for a demonstration on 7 August from 1 – 2pm. Presented in conjunction with Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University.

Inquiry Centre renovations will be in progress until 20 September 2008. The Inquiry Centre space will be closed 15 July to 24 August. All services remain unchanged but during full closure all in-person specimen or object identification inquiries will be conducted on Level 2, Cloak Room Reception.
