Striped jumping spider
Breda jovialis, family Salticidae
Identification
Small black spider with white stripe down body and the spider jumps.
Spider can easily climb glass.
Length: Leg span 2cm.
Distribution
Eastern Australia around homes and gardens.
Bite
Painful with redness, swelling; in most cases pain fades with 1-2 hours. Spider seems to bite without apparent provocation.
Venom: Not studied but the bite is more problematical, at least in the short term, than other spiders.
