Brown Hare
Lepus europaeus
Identification:
Body length 60 cm; tail length 8 cm; weight 4 kg. Adults fawn to ginger-brown; very long ears; gangling appearance.
Habitat and Range:
Farmland, paddocks and spacious allotments with long grass or adjacent cover. Central Qld to Tas. Europe, South-east Asia and North America.
Notes:
Common. Mostly nocturnal; solitary; does not burrow. From 8 - 10 young born per female per year.
Traces:
Smooth droppings, the shape of a slightly flattened 15 mm sphere.
