Undressed: 350 Years of Underwear in Fashion
12 November - 1 February
Queensland Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum, London (V&A) are uncovering fashion’s secret history in Undressed: 350 Years of Underwear in Fashion.
Join us as we take a peek beneath fashion’s more respectable layers to explore our evolving attitude to sex, beauty and gender through the garments that have privately slimmed, boosted, decorated, and concealed our bodies in our quest for the fashionable ideal.
From the modesty of Queen Victoria’s drawers to the satin revolution of the Wonderbra, the ultimate constriction of the 16th century iron corsetry through to the avant-garde freedom of Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier and Vivienne Westwood Undressed: 350 Years of Underwear in Fashion stands testimony to our ever-changing vision of beauty.
Featuring more than 80 highlights from the V&A’s extensive collection, it is the first time many of these items have ever been on public display.
