Medieval Power: Symbols and Splendour
5.30pm – 9pm, Level 3
Explore extraordinary artefacts drawn from one of the British Museum’s most-visited collections. Please be aware for safety and security 180 people are permitted inside the exhibition at any one time. Exhibition visitation peaks at the beginning of the event.


Jester juggling school
5:30 – 8:30pm. Roving
Ever wanted to learn to juggle? Ever wanted to be taught by a jester? After Dark can deliver that!

Sword battle
6:40pm & 7:50pm. Level 2 Foyer               
New Varangian Guard – Rusland
Brace yourself for battle as the New Varangian Guard wield their swords is a heart-stopping demonstration of medieval skills and gallantry.


Torin King
5:30pm – 8:00pm. Roving Viking Harpist Torin King
A modern day minstrel and singer of sacred and sublime songs in English, Old Norse and other ancient languages, accompanied by the harp and lyre.

The Counterfeit Umbrellas         
From 6.50pm. Level 2 Foyer
Enjoy the energetic, joy-evoking sound of The Counterfeit Umbrellas. An indie-folk fanfare of toe-tapping melodies, soaring harmonies and happy high hopes.

Between Linen Sheets: The very secret  sex lives of Medieval women. Rosalie Gilbert
Join us for a candid and very revealing look at this very private subject and explores not only what your mother didn’t tell you, but what every medieval woman needed to know.

7.30pm (30 minutes)
Level 2, Theatre
Medieval Surgery – There will be blood! Dr Michelle Barton
What would happen if your received an arrow to the stomach in the 12th century?  Discover how a medieval surgeon would have approached this quandary. Join us to discuss all the gory details of medieval medicine. This talk is not for the faint-hearted.


Silversmithing with Dan Cox
5.30 – 8.30pm. Level 2, Lost Creatures
Watch as experienced Silversmith and DAP Jewellery School Director Dan Cox creates unique hand-made jewellery pieces inspired by the exhibition.

Garland Making Workshop
5.30 – 8.30pm. Level 3, Discovery Centre
Make your own floral garland guided by expert Jule Barten as she shares her skills gained from more than 20 years of floral stying. 


Selection of wine, beer and medieval inspired refreshments. Food from  $7.

  • Delays to exhibition entry may be experienced during peak visitation times
  • Food and drink are not permitted in the exhibition area
  • Photography is not permitted inside the exhibition
  • Please be aware that Cultural Precinct car parks are in high demand during schools holidays and special performances and availability may be limited
