Behind the Scenes Tour

Delve into the mysterious unseen world of the Museum’s collection stores with our expert tour guides. The Museum is like an iceberg – only a small part of our huge collection is on display. Behind the scenes, we have an amazing world to explore, with millions of objects and specimens.

Join us for a unique chance to explore our priceless collections up close as you visit restricted access areas. See rare and extinct animal species, amazing creatures from the deep, incredible cultural artefacts and much much more....

All creatures great and small make their way into our Natural Environments collection, where our scientists care for and study Queensland’s natural history. Specimens on display include those that span the entire animal kingdom: from tiny single-cell protozoans to blue whales; from specimens collected last week to others collected 150 years ago; and from living species to those that are now extinct.

Our Cultural Environments collection is where our team of expert staff undertakes research into Queensland's cultural heritage. We collect and care for items that represent the history of the state and demonstrate what sets us apart. You'll see incredible cultural artefacts and objects reflecting Queensland and Australian History, including objects that reflect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander History.
