Behind the Scenes - Holiday Tours

Specimens from the Natural Environments collection

This guided tour takes you behind the scenes for a unique chance to see the priceless collections up close. Each day’s tour will be unique and you might end up face to face with insects, spiders, snakes, possums, fish, crabs, parasites, snails, birds, kangaroos and more.

The Museum is like an iceberg – only a small part of our huge collection is on display. Behind the scenes, we have an amazing world to explore, with millions of objects and specimens.

All creatures great and small make their way into our Natural Environments collections, where our scientists care for and study Queensland’s natural history.

Specimens on display include those that span the entire animal kingdom: from tiny single-cell protozoans to blue whales; from specimens collected last week to others collected 150 years ago; and from living species to those that are now extinct.
