National Science Week

Hands-on Science event - Over 18

Radical wine and chocolate Radical Wine and Chocolate Radical Wine and Chocolate

Embrace your inner scientist and discover the real reason why wine and chocolate really are good for you by exploring the science of antioxidants.

This delicious event will reveal the chemistry behind these feel-good foods, invite you to conduct scientific experiments and put what you have learnt into practice by tasting a selection of delicious wines and delectable chocolates from local producers.

Everything from the food we eat to our own body is made of chemicals. The amount and combination of each different chemical is what gives wine and chocolate their delicious taste and smell. Which chemicals are behind the favourable and unfavourable tastes and smells in chocolate and wine? How much is enough and what happens when other chemicals are added or created in the manufacturing process? Meet some of these wonderful chemicals, find out how chemicals are linked your wine and chocolate preference, and be a wealth of information at your next dinner party!

Meet the wine producers and Chocolatiers, explore the health benefits and hear from leading experts.
