Brisbane Floods 2011

Floor Talk

Flooding at Kangaroo Point, Brisbane

Senior Curator of Social History Jo Besley will discuss the history of flooding in Brisbane, with a particular focus on Brisbane’s most dramatic floods of 2011, 1974 and 1893.

Brisbane is a river city, built on a floodplain - the history of the river and the city are inextricably linked and it has long been recognised that large floods are a part of the river’s natural system.

Queensland Museum is keen to collect stories and objects that will preserve this significant historical event for future generations. Jo will explain the donations process and the types of objects and stories we’re looking for.
