Enter a world of insect discovery.  Precious, delicate, vivid and amazing, insects fill our world with colour and patterns. Look closely and be amazed by what you discover.

Holiday program recommended for families with children 3 – 12 years.

Come face to face with colourful insects in the Insectarium activity zone

Look closely at hundreds of butterflies, moths and beetles and discover their colour, shape and patterns with Magnify.

Become an Insect Artist as you draw a beautiful butterfly or moth. Hang your drawing in the gallery and view other children’s art work.

Create My Butterfly with paper and pattern. Flutter your creation as you move through the museum.

Can you find the perfect match with Insect Match Up, our giant insect memory match game?

ICentre Insects

Search up high, search down low, butterflies and insects wherever you go. Open the drawers and explore the cases to uncover our spectacular specimens, wonderful wings and camouflaged creatures.

Can you find all the camouflaged creatures in the Hidden image activity? Mix and match insects and their colourful wings in Wonderful Wings. Collect Stick Insect eggs for our nursery in Egg Sort. View spectacular horned beetles in our newest insect display.

Insect Identification will be held weekdays 1:30pm – 3:30pm. Bring in your insect specimens to have them identified by our Inquiry Centre experts. Read through our Identification Guidelines before bringing in your insect specimen.

Eye Spy Insects

Family or small group trail around the museum

Is it a beetle? Is it a bug? Is it a butterfly or is it a moth?

Look high and low for the insects hidden around the museum. As you follow the trail discovering more, your insect will emerge before your eyes. Look closely. What insect will it be?

When: 9:30am - 5pm.

Where: Trail sheets are available on Level 2.

Cost: Free. Bookings are essential for all schools and groups.

 

A Bug’s Life

A Disney Pixar Film

An inventor ant named ‘Flik’, on a mission to find "warriors" to save his colony from greedy grasshoppers, recruits a group of bugs that turn out to be a bumbling circus troupe. Can ‘Flik’ and his inventions save Ant Island?
