Biodiversity through time
Dr Alex Cook, Senior Curator, Geosciences Queensland Museum

From the largest dinosaur to the smallest fossil pollen, the history of life on earth provides us with a unique record of the past biodiversity of the planet. How do we measure the richness of ancient ecosystems with only a patchy fossil record?

In this talk the geological perspective of biodiversity will be examined. Patterns of biodiversity through geological time demonstrate both the fragility and the resilience of life and the importance of understanding whole ecosystems.
