Memoirs of the Queensland Museum
The museum’s own journal, Memoirs of the Queensland Museum celebrated 100 years of scientific publishing in November 2012. With about 39,000 pages and 1,700 contributing authors, the Memoirs has published nearly 2,000 peer-reviewed articles and Notes, including the descriptions of approximately 5,200 new species, and has documented the evidence of adaptation and resilience of Queensland's natural and cultural communities in the face of rapid environmental and technological changes.
In 1998 the Memoirs was split into two series - Nature and Culture - with the latter dedicated to Queensland's Cultural Heritage. This Cultural series was awarded a Silver medal in the Governor's Heritage Award for Volume 5, entitled ‘Behind the Tin Fence: A history of the Ipswich Railway Workshops’.
Memoirs of the Queensland Museum | NATURE [ISSN 0079-8835]
The latest volume of Nature, Volume 57, is a special issue on the collection of corals at the Museum of Tropical Queensland. 'Revision and catalogue of worldwide staghorn corals Acropora and Isopora (Scleractinia: Acroporidae) in the Museum of Tropical Queensland'.
Memoirs of the Queensland Museum | CULTURE [ISSN 1440-4788]
The latest volume of Culture, Volume 6, is also a special interest issue entitled – 'Andrew Goldie in New Guinea 1875 – 1879: Memoir of a natural history collector'.
The goal of the Memoirs of the Queensland Museum is to share the knowledge from research on the material evidence, traditions and history of the natural, ancient and cultural environments of Queensland and adjacent land and seas, with all communities. All manuscripts published are peer reviewed by experts in their field.
Our publications are sent on exchange or by subscription across the world - and now also available online soon after printing - with earlier issues available either here (see the list of available volumes at the left side of this webpage), or from the Biodiversity Heritage Library (Volumes 47 and earlier).
Technical Reports of the Queensland Museum (ISSN 1837-6568) are available only online in a ‘read only’ format . These Reports may include reproductions (or revisions) of documents that were originally compiled to advise industry, government or academia on specific scientific issues. They are published to ensure that the scientific and technical data they contain are not lost within the vast unpublished scientific ’grey literature’.
